World of Wearable Art

I’m in Nelson, New Zealand!  And it’s raining, so I feel right at home.  Wet weather activities so far, alongside lots of good conversation and interesting new people, have included seeing a film about Scotland (Brave) and visiting the World of Wearable Art (WOW).

The museum is the result of a show which began in Nelson in 1987.  It takes the form of a design competition where the lines of art, fashion and performance are blurred.  The human body is the canvas for experimental design.  Participants from all over the world make surreal, theatrical and spectacular items of ‘clothing’ which are shown on stage at the annual show in Wellington.  The cream of the crop then come to the museum in Nelson.
